Laretol Capsule is used to treat and prevent low levels of calcium and bone disease in patients whose kidneys or parathyroid glands (glands in the neck that release natural substances to control the amount of calcium in the blood) are not working normally. Calcitriol (a vitamin D analogs) works by helping the body to use more of the calcium found in foods or supplements and regulating the body's production of parathyroid hormone.

Alcohol:
Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Laretol Capsule. Please consult your doctor.

Pregnancy:
Laretol Capsule may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

Breastfeeding:
Laretol Capsule is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.While on treatment with Laretol Capsule, serum calcium levels of the mother and infant should be monitored.

Driving:
Laretol Capsule does not usually affect your ability to drive.

Kidney:
Laretol Capsule should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Laretol Capsule may be needed. Please consult your doctor.However, regular monitoring of phosphate levels may be advised while you are taking this medicine.

Liver:
Laretol Capsule is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment of Laretol Capsule is recommended.

Laretol Capsule is used for the treatment of calcium deficiency and metabolic bone disease.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, or if you have ever had kidney stones.
Inform your doctor if you are taking an iron supplement, as the absorption rate might be affected.
Along with taking Laretol Capsule, maintain a healthy lifestyle, include calcium-rich food in your diet, exercise (regular weight-bearing exercise) with your doctor's advice, and take proper measures to reduce the risk of falls.
It is recommended that you take Laretol Capsule at bedtime, preferably at least 2 hours after dinner. You may lie down immediately after taking it if you wish.
If you take antacids (medicines to relieve heartburn) or medicines containing calcium you should take them at least 2 hours after taking Laretol Capsule to avoid interference.

If you miss a dose of Laretol Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
